Counselling Tips
How to use Mock counselling feature?
This feature is based on the cutoff ranks given to us by the CET cell. Our algorithm will fetch unique search results based on the rank you provide. This KCET mock counselling feature allows you to get an approximate idea as to which college might be available for you when you attend your counseling session. Of course, this is just a prediction, to give you a rough idea of which college might be available to you. We cannot guarantee the same college and branch for that rank, but we believe that the counselling pattern usual repeats, so use it to analyze your options and narrow down on the best college for you.
Best practices on choosing a college
Here are some helpful tips for making your college selection process bit easier and less stressful
- Course : This is your start to your life long career! I have seen many students and parent giving very little importance to the branch or course they want to pursue and rather go for a supposedly better college sacrificing on the course. In India it seems that the status of a person is identified based on which college he is going to and not the branch. I say - Grow up! Please turn a blind eye and deaf ear to such people. You need to sit down and decide for yourself as a student, what your passions are? and what you would like to do as an avocation? This should be the first step. Many students and parent alike have come up to me and asked whether one college is better than the other and i soon released that the student was being forced to join a college for a branch he doesn’t have interest in! It will be 4 years of hell if you don’t like the subject. So don’t sacrifice on the course!
- Minimum transportation time : This point is often neglected by parents who feel, its okay for their child to travel 25 km a day for college which is supposedly slightly better than a college close to home. Please be practical, calculate the time spent on travel and use this factor as a yard stick to choose between two colleges you are having a dilemma about.
- College Facilities : After you have narrowed down your list of colleges following the step 1 and 2. It is time to visit the college campuz. Very easy way to know if the college is good is by looking at the Labs. If they are spending the money you are paying, that means you are going to get value for money services. Most colleges simply take all your money and do very little on infrastructure development. Get permission to check the classes and labs during a working day and talk to a teacher or two to get an opinion on which college is better. This is a trick, to understand what features are available in there college, you will know better since you would have asked teachers in both the colleges the same question :). So, after gather the information and if you feel campuz is of your liking! Its great, go for it (If all the 3 steps comply)! Its your second home.
- Placements : Placements in colleges are not 100 percent, not because the college is not doing there job! Its because the student is not qualified enough to take that job. Please keep in mind that when time is good, everything seems wonderful. When there is recession in the economy, sometime even IT companies have to close doors. This impacts grade B as much as it impacts grade A colleges. So, work on your soft skills, be professional in your approach and work on your things which you feel will look good on your portfolio, i can personally guarantee you that you will get a job. Nowadays most college are boasting about 100 percent placements.
